'Do Not Play' list - Revisited
Giving your DJ a list of songs you do not want played at your reception is a common practice. It informs the DJ as to what YOU, the client, don't want to hear at your reception.
This concept is reasonable.
What is unreasonable is listing songs that you personally are sick of hearing at wedding receptions.
Yeah, I said it. Your 'Do Not Play' list is very likely unreasonable, and at the very least, disrespectful of your guests.
Do you know why you hear 'those songs' all the time?
Because they're fun.
Because people dance when they're played.
Because more people like these songs than dislike them.
Here is an example of what SHOULD be on a 'Do Not Play' list:
Closer - Nine Inch Nails
She Hates Me - Puddle of Mudd
99 Problems - Jay-Z
Any 'hardcore' gangsta rap
Basically anything you'd be embarrassed to have your parents and/or your grandparents hear.
Any wedding DJ wouldn't play these anyway.
Which brings me to YOUR 'Do Not Play' list. If it is excluding all those fun songs you are personally tired of... rethink it. You are doing a disservice to your guests.
That is all.
